Mejia and the National Sanctuary

Arequipa

It's a nice resort, until recently, considered as an exclusive resort for wealthy families of Arequipa. It has magnificent residences, usually occupied only during the summer season. There is also a club on the beach. Mollendo is 14 km from Mejia and 140 km from Arequipa.
Nearby Mejia there is a big lake that has formed from percolating water from the Irrigation Mollendo - Mejia - Ensenada. This lake is filled with birds, such as ducks, collide, redfish, etc.. Is it a good place for hunting. In addition, at Mejia you can also go fishing, from the beach or from the rocks of Tiro Alto.
In the Mejia Lagoons National Sanctuary you can find 141 species of birds, of which 84 are residents of the Peruvian coast and 57 migratory, meaning that they are found in this area only at a certain time of the year, in an effort to escape the harsh winter of other latitudes. Mejia also has educational and tourist potential. It lies a few kilometers from the port of Mollendo and Matarani
