Yumina, Characato, Yarabamba, Quequena, Sogay

Arequipa

Stroll the villages near Sabandía. In Yumina, the undulating platforms and amphitheatres splendid, beautifully framing the beautiful panorama. Characato, is an ancient village with much tradition. Sabandía is located at 13 km from Arequipa, has been chosen to install a Meteorological Observatory, Geophysical and Telesísmico as well as a Satellite Tracking Artificail Station. The classic bullfights, so deeply rooted in the rural tradition of Arequipa, in Characato it has greater effect. Yarabamba, It is 23 km from the city, on the road through Characato. It is a region of grasslands in the plains and terraces in the hills. Primitive seat was pre-Inca cultures, the area have is rich in archaeological sites. Very close is Sogay, a really charmly place, extremely picturesque, ideal for walking creeks. Quequeña, is beyond Yarabamba at 30Km. Arequipa. It has a nice colonial baroque church, not yet restored. In the nearby hills are many of very sound dioritic stones with petroglyphs remarkable, their ceramics have enriched many museums and private collections. In the main square there is a monument to the "martyrs of Quequeña" humble peasants who were killed by barbarians of Chile in 1883, in retaliation for the death of a couple of them.
