Manu: Cultural Zone

We leave Cusco early in the morning in our comfortable bus. We ascend to the heights of Paucartambo. On the way we visit the funeral towers or Chullpas Ninamarca. Then we descend through the mysterious cloud forest full of beautiful orchids, heliconias and primitive ferns, taking breaks to give the opportunity to witness the bird 'Cock of the Rock" (rupicola peruvian) in the mating ritual. There are also possibilities to observe trogons (Trogon sp.) and more. If we get luck we'll see the only South American bear, the spectacled bear (Tremarctos ornatus). In the afternoon we'll arrive at the port of Atalaya where we board the boat -30 minutes- until Paititi Lodge where we stay in our typical hostel bathrooms and showers.

After a delicious breakfast, we'll continue our walk to the lookout to explore the trails around the lodge and other activities. Overnight in Hostel with toilets and showers available.

After a delicious and nutritious breakfast, we continue our route traveling by boat. We'll visit Machuwasi's lake on a  typical catamaran of area to observe a variety of birds, monkeys, reptiles, insects and dwarf caimans, turtles groups and maybe some capybaras (Hydrochaeris). After this unforgettable ride, we'll return to our hostel. Dinner and overnight. Overnight in Hostel with toilets and showers available.

This day  we continue our boat trip along the Rio Alto Madre de Dios. On the way we will observe many species of birds like different types of herons, parrots, orioles, anis and buzzards. We will see various settler communities living along the river; also we'll visit the native communities of Shintuya and appreciate their typical houses. After a break we head down river to arriving at Natural Hot Springs or "Aguas Calientes"  which have medicinal properties for arthritis and bone pains. In the afternoon we return to our hostel Paititi. Overnight in Hostel Paititi. Option night walk.

Return by boat from the lodge Paititi to the lookout through Pilcopata, again we'll visiting the mysterious cloud forest bound for the city of Cusco. Approximate Arrival: 6:30 - 7pm.
