Upon arrival at the airport you will be greeted by one of our contributors and we will go to our offices in Puerto Maldonado to about 10 minutes away, while you enjoy a first contact with the jungle. Then we will move from the office in Puerto Maldonado to Puerto Tambopata, skirting a distance of 20 km to reach the port of embarkation. This port is located in the Native Community of Infierno. After a trip of 2.5 hrs. through Native Community of Infierno through the Tambopata National Reserve we will go to Refugio Amazonas. This protected area has more than one million hectares.

Cayman Search
After dinner, we will have an adventure boating along the Tambopata River, where we will search with our flashlights on the banks, the red reflection from caiman eyes. Overnight at Refugio Amazonas.
A thirty minute walk from Refugio Amazonas leads to the canopy tower 25 meters high. A staircase with railing provides a secure access to the platforms above. The tower has been built upon high ground, therefore increasing the horizon of primary forest extending out towards the Tambopata National Reserve. From here you can see different species of birds such as toucans, macaws and raptors, among others. Breakfast at the Refuge.
Visit a Chacra and Ethnobotanical Garden.
We will go five minutes down river to a farm owned by charismatic Don Manuel from the neighboring community of Condenado. Don Manuel planting a variety of popular and unknown crops-each plant and tree you see serves a purpose.
Ethnobotanical Tour.
Throughout the tour, we will find a unique number of plants and trees, which are used for different purposes by local people. Also learn about the medicinal (and other) uses of Cat's Claw, Yuca de Venado, Charcot - Sacha, Ajo-Sacha, Para-Para, among others. We will go to lunch.
Visit the Lake.
We will have a magnificent canoe or catamaran ride around the lake, looking for resident species such as camungo, shansho and caiman. Hopefully we will see the otters which are infrequently seen here. Also, we can see a variety of birds like macaws and parrots flying over the lake.
Presentation on the Tambopata National Reserve.
After dinner evening presentations will be prepared by the staff of Refugio Amazonas to discuss conservation issues, opportunities and projects in the Tambopata National Reserve. Overnight at Refugio Amazonas.
After breakfast we will travel on a boat from Refugio Amazonas to Tambopata River Port. Then we will go from Tambopata River Port in Puerto Maldonado to the office . We will stop briefly and head to the airport, depending on the departure time of the flights may be needed an early dawn departure.
