The Inti Raymi or "Festival of the Sun" is the most important festival in Cusco.
Although today we know the celebration with his quechua name of Inti Raymi, actually it is a common feast to many prehistoric towns of the Andes, and certainly precedes the formation of the Inca Empire.
The Inti Raymi is still celebrated as syncretic rite in many Andean communities.
Cusco is marked by the encounter and mixture of cultural and natural resources that make it unique, different but the indissoluble and mysterious time. Its buildings scattered throughout the Cusco department, part of the tourist and historical attraction of the place.
Undoubtedly one of its main attractions is the Sacsayhuaman complex, monumental architectural complex in the north of Cusco, two kilometers from the city and 3671 meters. Sacsayhuaman was one of the major strengths of Tahuantinsuyo and is considered one of the most important centers of worship from the time of the Incas.
The Inti Raymi, contemporary version is from the June 24, 1944, when the festivities were instituted in memory of the city to its ancient origin and cradle of the Great Inca Civilization.
